Our Family Trip to Deoghar (Nov 5–8, 2025): A Detailed Travel Diary & Visitor Guide

My name is Rudrajit Dawn. In November 2025, I travelled with my parents to Deoghar for a short but meaningful trip. My parents wanted to perform certain rituals at the Baba Baidyanath Temple, and I joined them for a long weekend. This post is a complete account of our journey—travel, temples, hills, food, unexpected incidents, and helpful tips for future visitors.

Trip Overview (5–8 November 2025)

  • Nov 5: I reached home from my workplace. We finalized the travel plan.

  • Nov 6: Train journey → Burdwan → Asansol → Jasidih. Checked in. Afternoon visit to Naulakha Temple and Tapovan Hills.

  • Nov 7: Ritual day at Baba Baidyanath Temple, visit to Shivganga pond, Trikut Hills and Nandan Pahar Park.

  • Nov 8: Return journey to Burdwan.

Our Train Journey

On 6 November, we reached Burdwan Station early in the morning to catch the Black Diamond Express to Asansol. The train was on time and the journey was comfortable.

At Asansol, we needed a connecting train to Jasidih. A tea-stall owner told us that Gurumukhi Express would arrive soon. Since we did not have reserved seats and there was no time to enquire formally, we boarded an unreserved coach.

The coach was crowded, but manageable. My mother had packed homemade tiffin, which we enjoyed along the way. This train usually goes toward Punjab, so many passengers were travelling long distances. We reached Jasidih safely.

Arrival in Deoghar and Where We Stayed

From Jasidih Station, we hired an auto to reach Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Deoghar, about 1.5 km from the Baba Baidyanath Temple. The accommodation was simple and peaceful.

The Sangha provides food but requires guests to inform them before 3 PM for dinner. Since we reached around noon and had not eaten lunch, they directed us to Saunak Hotel near the Naulakha Temple. The meal there was fresh and satisfying.

Visit to Naulakha Temple and Tapovan Hills

Naulakha Temple

After lunch, we visited the Naulakha Temple, a serene place with beautiful surroundings. We sat for a while, and my father asked about nearby attractions.

Tapovan Hills

We checked Google Maps and chose to visit Tapovan Hills. We hired a toto and reached the base of the hill. My father chose to stay below, so my mother and I started climbing with a local guide.

The initial climb was easy due to the staircases. At the top, we reached a flat area where a few trained black-faced monkeys were present. Locals offer visitors a chance to feed or take photos with the monkeys for a small fee.

We climbed further upward, exploring several small temples scattered around the hill.

While returning, the guide showed us a rocky route without stairs. It was adventurous but difficult. My mother preferred the staircase route, but I wanted to try the new path. We eventually chose the rocky path and climbed down carefully, sometimes crawling over big stones.

It was tiring but memorable.

Ritual Day at Baba Baidyanath Temple

The next day—Friday, 7 November—was dedicated to my father’s rituals related to kaalsarpa dosh. We reached Baba Dham early.

The priests guided us through several rituals. Afterward, they instructed my father to take a holy bath at Shivganga, a sacred pond near the temple.

A Surprising Incident at Shivganga

While my father was bathing, a large snake suddenly appeared near him and started moving in his direction. Everyone nearby got scared. The priest threw water toward the snake to divert it. After a tense few moments, the snake disappeared into the water.

My father completed his bath safely and returned. It was an unexpected and dramatic incident.

Inside the Main Temple

The temple was extremely crowded, as it often is. Inside the sanctum, devotees try to pour milk, bow down, and touch the jyotirlinga. Despite the crowd, we completed the rituals as instructed.

After that, we had parathas, sabzi, and sweets at a nearby hotel and returned to our accommodation.

Visiting Trikut Hills and Nandan Pahar Park

In the afternoon, we visited Trikut Hills, one of the popular attractions in Deoghar. Earlier, ropeways used to operate here, but after a serious accident, ropeway services were permanently stopped. Visitors now explore the area on foot or by taking help from local guides. The views around the hills are still beautiful, even without the ropeway.

After Trikut, we went to Nandan Pahar Park, a peaceful park suitable for evening walks and family visits.

Return Journey

On Saturday, 8 November, we took two trains to return to Burdwan. The journey back was smooth, and we reached home by late morning.
